Deltech top hat furnaces offer superior temperature uniformity by design.

Is product stability critical to your process? In the “top hat” furnace design, the furnace body moves up and down over the fixed load platform or kiln car, leaving the product load completely undisturbed. This is ideal for applications such as gradient glass manufacture or when there are multiple layers of kiln furniture. These furnaces are available in both benchtop and production scale sizes with operating temperatures up to 1800 degrees Celsius.

Features of Top Hat Furnaces

Deltech top hat furnaces offer superior temperature uniformity by design. The heating elements are evenly spaced on all four sides.
Our furnace linings feature the very best quality board and blanket insulation materials. Planning to process corrosive materials? We offer ceramic hot face linings to resist chemical attack.
In production size top hats, our unique pin-and-washer anchoring system maintains structural integrity through high fires and rapid cycling.
Your choice of pneumatic (100 psi facility air required) or electric actuation systems. The pneumatic system features variable travel speed; the electric has a fixed rate of approximately 88cm per minute. Programmable operation of the lift system is optional.
Sturdy fiberboard exterior panels are offset from the furnace shell to facilitate convection cooling, keeping the furnace skin temperatures at safe levels without the use of cooling fans.
Forced air and vent flap options to facilitate binder burnout and speed cooling rates as needed. There are two standard forced air options, both of which provide good uniformity. The downdraft design will push air against the natural chimney that forms inside the kiln. The vortex option will provide a cyclical flow that sends air in every three inches up the vertical sides of the kiln. Choose this solution if you have a lot of stacked saggers or shelving. We can also design an air flow solution that meets your unique process requirements.
Opt for an “Atmosphere Envelope” design for processing in inert gases and up to 5% hydrogen mixtures.
Multi-car systems with programmable operation.
1500, 1600, 1700, and 1800 degrees Celsius models offer sustained operation at the maximum rated temperature.
Would your process benefit from an accelerated ramp rate? Consider our “fast fire” option, with rates up to 1000 degrees Celsius depending upon furnace capacity and load. Available for both lab scale and production size furnaces.
